Gosh, that is a forward thinking question.

Probably maths and further maths, but they aren’t necessary. A lot of people retrain into statistics after doing a science or computing degree, because there are lots of job opportunities in it. An interviewer for a statistician job. is going to care more about do you have advanced skills in statistics. These could be from a degree, or from self-study or by doing a lot of statistics work within another a job. I learnt mine through self-study and then doing a degree by examination – this is where you do exams, but don’t have any teaching beforehand so it is much cheaper.

However, learning maths and further maths would be extremely helpful for being a statistician as they teach you lots of basic maths skills like differentiation and give you lots of practise of writing proofs and thinking about maths problems.
