• Question: Is there anywhere or anyone you really want to work with?

      I’ve been really lucky to have travelled a lot to work with different people – I’ve worked in the UK, the Netherlands, the USA, and travelled to a lot more countries to present my results from experiments. It’s a lot of fun – but right now I have two small kids and I’m really happy working just two miles away from home 🙂

    There are some places that can be really really cool in your field. For instance, if you like maths and cryptography, working at GCHQ could be really exciting. I’ve been lucky in that whilst I have mostly worked in the same place, I have been able to travel and see some cool places. I have had a tour of the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier and walked on the flight deck. I had the Top Gun theme in my head all the time!

    But really, the BEST places to work are those where your colleagues and collaborators are friendly, helpful, work together on a problem and are willing to support each other. More money in a horrid environment simply isn’t worth it.
