I can’t answer this very well as I didn’t do Physics.
My memory of other students at university were they had about the same amount of lectures as maths, but a lot more practical lab work while maths had more reading and thinking.
I know a couple of people who carried on working as physicists after university – like other academics, they have moved around a lot looking for a permanent job contract. There are lots of opportunities for doing physic research, or for moving out into industry jobs.
