I wouldn’t say that I was one – but I guess you can add the time spend studying (GCSE, A-levels, university) and then just a lot of time using maths and mathematical concepts in the world of work. Actually most of the maths I do on a day to day basis is little more than GCSE level, but I can go deeper if I need to
I think anyone who actively studies or uses maths to solve problems is a mathematician! So I think that you students are all mathematicians! But in answer to your question, I did GCSEs and A-Levels and then spend 9 years at university to get a PhD in mathematics
